1. Historic Bovaird House
Brampton’s most famous and well-preserved historic homes, the Bovaird House was built back in 1852. It was donated to the City of Brampton back in 1985. It is a five-bay Georgian-style farmhouse on a 2-acre land along with another historic home, the Pendergast Log House. In the 1990s, it was converted into a museum and is a delight to visit. They offer guided tours as well!
2. Alderlea
My favourite from the list, the stunning Alderlea mansion is also open for the public. It started out as a mansion located on a massive estate but due to financial struggles of the owner, it was sold to the city. Ever since, the local government has rehabilitated the mansion and it remains just as pristine as it ever was! Its Italianesque-style architecture will take you back a century.
3. McMurchy Mansion
You might only be able to view this one from far away as it’s privately owned. The McMurphy Mansion sits on a huge land and is guarded by tall trees.
4. Main Street South Mansion
The Main Street South Mansion recently made news because it was listed for sale at $3 million. It is a steep price compared to its 2018 listing price of $1.4 million. Built in 1871, the mansion’s owners have preserved the architecture but made several upgrades inside the house. The Gothic Revival architecture is complete with intricate millwork, steepled windows and the classic red brick.
5. Butcher Mansion
Just a few steps down south from Alderlea Mansion is another beautiful historic masterpiece, the Butcher Mansion. The three-storey home was abandoned after a fire but was restored by a local family in the 1990s. Continue walking down Queen Street and you’ll find more historic homes.
